A Celebration of Brass Bands in Coalfield Communities

Join us for a very special event celebrating the importance of brass bands in coalfield communities.

Focusing around a screening of the beloved film Brassed Off, this evening will showcase the power, solidarity and friendships formed by brass bands.

When Gloria is sent by her power company to assess the condition of a coal mine in her former hometown, her arrival injects a new lease of life in the local band which prepares for a national competition. A screening of Brassed Off will form the centrepiece of our exciting evening.

The film will be preceeded by a unique performance from Shirebook Miners' Welfare B Band, bringing to life pieces of music from the film. There will also be a small number of short films relevant to the heritage of the local area. A full programme for the evening can be seen below and in our FAQs.

Hot food and light refreshments will be available to purchase on the evening with a gluten-free and vegan option available.
